Having hemorrhoids is a real pain in the you know where. But possibly the most painful type of hemorrhoid, the thromboed external hemorrhoids that many have to deal with, is even more troublesome than some of the more common types of hemorrhoids. How will you know if you have a thrombosed hemorrhoid? There are some things you may want to watch for and some signs that you won’t be able to miss if your hemorrhoid becomes thrombosed.
Obvious Symptoms
Thrombosed hemorrhoids usually begin as external hemorrhoids. When it becomes thrombosed the hemorrhoid gets trapped outside of the anal canal and develops a blood clot. When this happens, the pain may be excruciating. You may think you need immediate medical attention, and you should seek help if the pain is too bad. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that sometimes a doctor will use an external hemorrhoid treatment to remove the hemorrhoid. This procedure may most often be done right in the doctor’s office, and it will consist of removing the clotted vein. Sometimes, if it isn’t extremely severe, waiting a few days and treating the symptoms may actually end the problem.
The appearance of a thrombosed hemorrhoid is not very attractive. It is actually quite ugly. The vein becomes swollen and may even turn blue or purple. It will look almost like you have a blueberry sticking out of your anal canal. Sometimes a thrombosed hemorrhoid will bleed, which can be quite scary.
Any time you see bleeding from your rectum, you should call your doctor. Hemorrhoids are the cause of rectal bleeding in most cases, but sometimes the bleeding is from a different source, such as undetected colorectal cancer. Talking to your doctor and being evaluated by him will give you the answer to what the problem really is, and the peace of mind that you are not suffering from cancer. It will also give him a chance to suggest an external hemorrhoid treatment that may help end the problem.

Having hemorrhoids is not something that anyone wants, but it is a fact of life for half of all adults, at one time or another.
