Having a condition like this can cause a range of reactions, from embarrassment or shame to pain and irritation. If you have this condition, though, rest assured that you are not alone. While they can be caused by a number of factors, some, like heredity, are out of your control. Others, including simple lifestyle factors, can be easily reversed. Knowing what is happening with your body, and what to do to relieve your symptoms, makes having this condition very manageable. It no longer has to be a source discomfort.

When you see blood in your toilet or on your toilet paper, it can be terrifying. What is going on, you wonder. Finding out that the blood is from a hemorrhoid can be a relief. If uncomfortable, at least this is incredibly treatable. The causes of bleeding hemorrhoids are varied. Here are the most common:

•	Rough toilet tissue. This can be the simple answer. When you wipe that area roughly, especially with course paper, it can irritate an existing hemorrhoid so much that it raises blood. If this is the case, then using a gentle, flushable wipe can help immensely. In addition, this will help keep the area cleaner.

•	Straining. Sometimes this condition can be caused when you strain too hard to have a bowel movement or when your stool is too hard. Add more fiber to your diet to ensure that stool is the correct consistency.

•	Strain on your anus. Sitting for too long, or even standing in one position for too long, places pressure on your anal region. This can cause veins to become irritated and inflamed. At work, make sure to get up and walk around once every hour.

•	Strangulated veins. Affected veins can become strangulated when an internal hemorrhoid comes through the anal canal. They can become pinched, which builds pressure and may cause some hemorrhaging.

•	Broken vessels. Sometimes an affected vessel may pop, causing some hemorrhaging. Occasionally, this can result in quite a lot of blood.

Bleeding hemorrhoids can be annoying, uncomfortable, and even painful. But above all, remember that it is treatable. Always see a doctor if you notice blood in your stool or toilet so you can rule out serious medical conditions, like colon cancer, colitis, or diverticulitis. Knowing what is going on with your body helps you take control. You can find a host of effective treatments that will relieve your symptoms.

As you grow older, there are many changes you will notice, both with life in general and in your own body. One thing that many people experience as they age is the unpleasant problem of hemorrhoids. As a matter of fact, more than half of all adults will have a problem with hemorrhoids at some point in their lifetime. With those odds, chances are that either you or someone close to you will one day experience having a hemorrhoid.

There is no mistaking it. First you might notice a slight itch or tingle in the rectal area. Then the aching may begin. It may also burn, making it difficult to even think about having a bowel movement. The problem is that, if you try to hold it, you may become constipated and cause the hemorrhoid to become even worse and possibly bleed.

The cause of external hemorrhoids may be different for each person, but when it comes right down to it, you can’t treat them properly without knowing why and how you got them to begin with. Here are some of the most common things that can cause external hemorrhoids:

Straining on the toilet: One of the biggest problems that leads to straining is becoming constipated. When you have to push and strain to pass a stool, you can cause the veins in the area to become irritated, swollen, and hard, resulting in a hemorrhoid.

Diet: What you eat has a greater effect on your health than you may realize. Diet controls nutrition, bowel habits, and how your organs function. If you are not eating enough fiber, drinking enough water, and eating a low fat diet, then you may be causing constipation which may create hemorrhoids.

Pregnancy: The additional stress placed on your rectum by a growing baby can cause hemorrhoids. It is especially important during pregnancy to eat a healthy diet that is high in fiber, drink plenty of water, and not allow yourself to become constipated. Putting your feet up when you can, resting enough, and going to the bathroom as soon as you feel the need will all help you to avoid having hemorrhoids caused by pregnancy.

Stress: Becoming stressed can cause you to develop hemorrhoids. When you are stressed, there are many things that may not work properly in your body, including your digestion, bowel habits, and circulation. Combine all of these things, and you are almost sure to begin a hemorrhoid problem.

Making life easier should include decreasing the chances of you getting thrombosed external hemorrhoids. Developing a hemorrhoid problem would be a worst-case scenario you could have avoided. Only you control what you do, the habits you keep, and the changes that can be made in your life. Taking care of yourself now may make life easier later.

Hemorrhoids are no laughing matter, especially if you are the one who has them. If you are one of those who has never had the misfortune to suffer from hemorrhoids or even if you have had them in the past and want to avoid them in the future, there are some things you can do to take good care of yourself and prevent a future that includes external hemorrhoids.

Steps to Consider

If you want to prevent hemorrhoids, there are some things you should do. First, make sure you are following a diet that is high in fiber and low in simple carbohydrates, sugar, and fat. Eat plenty of whole grains, fruit, and vegetables.

You should also make sure that you are drinking enough water. Some people think that drinking enough of anything will help them get the water they need, but the truth is that some beverages deplete your body of water. Soda pop, coffee, and alcohol all act as diuretics and may make you become dehydrated or constipated. Fruit juice and water are the best things to drink in order to not become either dehydrated or constipated.

Exercising regularly will help you prevent external hemorrhoids by keeping your circulation moving in a healthy manner. Hemorrhoids are a problem with the veins, and keeping veins healthy means keeping the blood flowing well. Establishing a low impact, non stressful exercise routine will keep things moving well.
Go to the bathroom as soon as you feel the need. Having a bowel movement when the need is present, rather than holding it until a more convenient time will help ensure that your stools are not hard and will not irritate your delicate tissue.

What Not to Do

When you are trying to prevent hemorrhoids, you will want to make sure you avoid doing certain things too. Don’t let yourself become constipated. Constipation is almost always one of the main causes of hemorrhoids. Following a proper diet, and maybe even taking a fiber supplement will help you avoid becoming constipated.

Don’t wipe hard. Wiping with dry toilet paper can be very irritating to the delicate tissue and veins in the rectal area. If you are the least bit sore, or even if you just want a more comforting way to wipe, you may want to use a moist cloth or baby wipe when you have a bowel movement.

Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and salt. All of these things may add to the problem.
Don’t overdo it by lifting and carrying things that are very heavy or bulky. This puts a lot of pressure on the rectum and can make your veins swell.

Preventing an external hemorrhoid is possible, but it may take some work on your part. If you already know you are prone to hemorrhoids, you may want to take extra precautions to make sure you are healthy all under.

If you are suffering from hemorrhoids, you may not immediately make the connection between what you eat and drink, and the hemorrhoid problem. What you may not know may be making your symptoms worse and prolonging the problem.

When it comes to external hemorrhoid remedy findings, there are many foods that you can use to help treat the problem. There are also some foods that you may want to avoid that may actually make the problem worse and make it more difficult to heal quickly.

What to Eat and Drink

First on the list of what to eat is high fiber foods. Fruit, vegetables, and whole grains will offer you the fiber you need in order to have the bulk required to make your stools easier to pass. Next is water. Water, water, water. It can’t be stressed enough that when you have hemorrhoids, you need to take in a lot of water to help heal, and help make your stools softer.

Berries are wonderful to add to your diet and will help with the pain and inflammation associated with external hemorrhoids. Cherries, blackberries and blueberries are all great to help with the veins, strengthening them and helping the swelling go down. They are especially fast acting when taken in juice form. They will get into your bloodstream faster, bringing results quickly.

Onions, garlic, and ginger are all important to have in your diet regularly if you have hemorrhoids. There are even ways to treat hemorrhoids topically with onions and garlic, but eating them is a great start to getting the healing they provide to your tissue that has been damaged.

Olive oil and flax seed oil are wonderful and healing. Fish oil is also something that you will want to make sure you are consuming, either as a supplement or in fresh fish. Drinking water with either lemon juice, cayenne pepper, or apple cider vinegar is a good way to help your body heal from the inside.

Foods to Avoid

If you have hemorrhoids, you may want to avoid eating spicy foods and hot peppers. The spices may irritate and make the pain and itching worse.

You will also want to avoid eating or drinking anything that may cause you to become constipated. Common foods and drinks to cause constipation are coffee, red meat, alcohol, and some other animal products. Since everyone is different in the ways the body reacts to dairy products and wheat, you need to monitor your own diet and see what the problem areas may be for you.

You will also want to cut down on your salt intake if you have hemorrhoids. Salt can irritate and make the itching worse.

Making changes to your diet to help fight hemorrhoids naturally may be the simplest way for you to begin to get control over them for good.

Hemorrhoid sufferers seem to wait until the pain and discomfort is very bad before they are willing to talk to the doctor about the problem. Many people won’t even let their doctors know that they are having a problem, until it is so severe that they have no choice.

One reason for this is because they are embarrassed. Another reason is that they think the doctor will be all about treating it with medication, and they don’t want to go that route. Why not bring your case before your doctor, and see if he has any advice that may be helpful to you, and actually go along with the way you want to treat your external hemorrhoids problem?

How to Make Your Case With Your Doctor

Before you talk to your doctor about any medical problem, including hemorrhoids, you need to do some homework. Do a little research about options that you would be willing to try. Read about what works for most people, and decide before you talk to him what you are and are not willing to try. If there is a medication that you think he might recommend, and you don’t want to take it, make a list of the reasons why.

Then, when you know what you don’t want to take, decide what you do want to take. Research what natural remedies would do the same things the medication would, but without any side effects or high cost. When you talk to him, it’s very important that you know what you are talking about and have some substantial information that will make sense to him.

You may also want to include in your list the reasons why you want to avoid medication and use only all natural remedies for hemorrhoids if possible. Even though you are determined, you may want to tell him that you want to try the natural ways first, and if they don’t work for you that you might then consider medication or other medical intervention.

If your hemorrhoids are to the point where he may recommend something even more invasive than medication, you may want to approach him with more information. Bleeding and having a thrombosed hemorrhoid are two reasons he may suggest something more intense, but he may not be insistent if there is no immediate danger.

When it comes right down to it, you are responsible for your own health decisions. Whether your doctor agrees or not, he may have some helpful tips to add to what you already know. If you approach him without being defiant, and know what you are talking about, he is much more likely to be agreeable and offer any help he can give you in your quest for a natural external hemorrhoid remedy.

Irritating, painful, swollen, and possibly hard to live with, hemorrhoids affect more than half the population. It’s true; more than half of all people will at some point in life experience the pain and discomfort brought on by hemorrhoids.

How do you find the cause if it has happened to you? There are a few things you can look at to determine the causes of external hemorrhoids in your own life:

Evaluate your bowel habits. If you are easily constipated, experience problems with occasional diarrhea, or are just plain irregular, then you may have hemorrhoids because of those things. When you have additional pressure on your rectum from having to strain or you become irritated from having diarrhea, the veins may become irritated and swell. You may also become injured from wiping too hard or being too rough.

Take a look at your diet. Is there enough fiber to keep things moving well and easily? Are you eating whole grains and low fat? Diet plays a bigger role in your health than many things do, including your rectum and anus. Not eating properly to maintain proper bowel movements may be one external hemorrhoids cause.

Do you get enough exercise? If you are living a sedentary life, then you may be sitting more than you should. This puts more pressure on your rectum and may cause you to become more easily irritated down there. Exercise plays the role of increasing circulation through your whole body. Since hemorrhoids are from irritated and swollen veins, then it only stands to reason that, if you have healthy circulation, you will be less likely to suffer from hemorrhoids.

Could stress be one of the causes of external hemorrhoids for you? Sometimes stress can cause your body to react in ways you might not expect it to. Getting hemorrhoids is one of those ways. Whether you have medical problems which produce stress, job-related stress, or emotional reactions that are stressful, you may notice more of a problem when your stress level is high. Learning how to control stress is one way to help avoid hemorrhoid problems.

Is it genetic? Sometimes hemorrhoid tendencies run in families. If your parents or grandparents had hemorrhoid problems, you may be more prone to them, too. That would mean that you need to pay attention to the possibility of a problem so it doesn’t become a real problem.

Whatever your external hemorrhoids cause is, figuring it out should be easy once you begin to take stock of your life and be honest about what your problem could be. Finding a solution begins with identifying the cause. It may be as simple as taking a candid look at your life.

Hemorrhoids are one of the problems that many women face while pregnant. The pressure on the rectum from the growing baby, the constipation that can accompany pregnancy, the supplements that you may not be used to taking, the additional blood flow, and the stress that may come along with knowing that there is a new life of responsibility headed your way, all add up to making conditions ripe for having hemorrhoids.

If you are pregnant and suffer from hemorrhoids, you want to do everything in as healthy a way as possible. Reading labels, using physician approved medication, using products that are all natural and present less health risk for both you and your baby, are all a part of taking the best care of both of you. Using an all natural external hemorrhoid remedy is one more thing to add to the list of what you can do to take care of yourself and your little one.

Pregnant women who want to avoid medication have many choices when it comes to treating hemorrhoids naturally. There are many things you can do to make yourself more comfortable, and to relieve any pain or itching associated with hemorrhoids.

You can use a natural plant that many people grow in their homes to treat minor scrapes and burns, aloe vera. You simply break of a thick stem (leaf), and squeeze out the gel that is inside. You then apply it to your hemorrhoid area. You may do this a few times a day.

Taking a warm bath a couple of times a day may offer you not only relief from the itch and aching that you are having with your hemorrhoids, but also help you relax and be off your feet for a while. You may even want to add something such as lavender oil or oatmeal to your bath to make it even more soothing.

When you are pregnant, your diet is more important than ever. You need to make sure you are eating enough fiber full foods, such as fruits and vegetables, drinking enough fluids, and getting all the nutrition this new role demands from you. Fiber and water are two of the most important things to get enough of when pregnant. You need them both to keep things moving, and you need extra fluid for the developing baby. With the extra blood you are producing, the amniotic fluid for the baby, and the additional work your bladder is doing, you need to drink more than your normal amount.

If you have problems with external hemorrhoids, any of these natural hemorrhoid treatments will offer you the relief you need and the peace of mind you want when using anything to treat yourself while pregnant.

Hemorrhoid relief may seem like something you just can’t achieve, especially on the job. Whether you have a job where you have to sit all day or one where you have to be on your feet all day, there are things you can do naturally on the job, to make yourself more comfortable and relieve some of the pain, itching, burning, and swelling that comes from the hemorrhoids.

If you sit on the job:

If you have desk job or another job that requires you to be sitting most of the time, there are some simple things you can do to make yourself more likely to heal from external hemorrhoids.

You could bring a soft pillow or something called a ‘donut’ (which is specially made for people with hemorrhoids) to sit on while working. This would offer you a break from a hard surface and take some of the pressure off your bottom.

You should also try to shift or fidget a lot while working; this will make sure that you aren’t in one position too long, and it will also help increase the circulation down there.

You could also bring a witch hazel pad to work with you and apply it gently when you go to the restroom. The soothing coolness may help you deal with sitting some more. Another option is to apply some aloe vera gel to the area. When you use the restroom, wipe gently and with a moist towel if possible, this will help heal by soothing and not being as rough as dry toilet paper would be.

When you can, you should also stand and walk around a little. Getting yourself moving will help relieve some of the pain and swelling, and increase your circulation.

If you stand on the job:

If you have a job that requires you to stand, there are some things you can do to help your hemorrhoids feel better while you work.

When you are working, rather than stand firm in one position, make sure you shift a lot. This will help relieve any pressure on your rectum and help with the circulation. You can shift your weight from one leg to the other or just adjust yourself every once in a while. The point is that you shouldn’t stay in one position and put all your weight on one leg all the time.

When you get a break, take the opportunity to sit with your feet up. This will help you take the pressure off that area, and offer relief to your bottom.

If possible, use the bathroom when you feel the need. Wipe with a moist towel, rather than use the dry, rough, toilet paper. You may also use something soothing while at work, such as witch hazel pads or aloe vera.

Whatever your job, taking the steps to help yourself be more comfortable may be the first step to an external hemorrhoid remedy that works naturally.

As almost every hemorrhoid sufferer knows, stress has a way of making them worse. But what many people may not realize is that stress may also be one of the main causes of external hemorrhoids. Finding your points of stress, learning how to handle stress without experiencing the severe physical reactions of it on your body, and developing a plan for how to deal with the stressful situations in life may actually help end the problem of external hemorrhoids, or even help you avoid the problem altogether.

Stress Points

When it comes to recognizing the things in life that may give you the most stress, you might need to take a good look at your history. If you have had any physical health problems that may cause physical stress that is also emotionally stressful. Having medical problems, needing surgery, and even feeling pain from injuries may all produce enough stress on your body for your body to react by not working properly. One of the things that can result from physical stress is bowel movement problems. Both constipation and diarrhea are causes of external hemorrhoids. When you have had physical problems or stressful situations, you need to be able to remain regular. This will help you avoid any hemorrhoid problems which may be looming.

Emotional stress may also be an external hemorrhoids cause, flaring up from the stress of emotional pain. Emotions and mental anguish may even cause your circulation not to be proper. This type of stress may interfere with your entire circulatory system, and cause your veins to become inflamed. It may also cause you to not eat properly, making proper bowel movements less likely and hemorrhoid problems more likely.

Handling Stress, Having a Plan

Dealing with the stresses that life may bring in a constructive way will do a lot for your overall health, including keeping hemorrhoids under control, or even avoiding them altogether. One plan to make is how you will control stress, and not let it control you. Here are a few suggestions on great ways to deal with any type of stress:

•	Learn to recognize the warning signs. Everyone is different, so the warning signs may not be the same for you as they are for someone else. If you find yourself reaching for chocolate, rather than a piece of fruit- when you normally wouldn’t- that may be one warning sign for you. There may be physical warnings, such as high blood pressure. When you recognize the first sign of being over stressed, take control.

•	Use prayer, meditation, or relaxation breathing to help lessen your stress level. People who use these techniques generally have less negative stress, and cope better with it physically.
Whatever your plan, remember that sticking with it is the way you will end having stress as an external hemorrhoids cause.
